AUBIN. SALCOMBE

BY PETER WILLIAMS

Since the very first moment I visited as a university student in 1993, Salcombe has been a very magical place for me. A place where the sun always shines, the scenery is breathtaking, and the beer taps work in overdrive.

Many moons ago, my co-Founder of Jack Wills, Rob and I lived in two bunk beds above this store, working the tills by day, (actually often skiving of to go sailing) and boozing by night.

From little acorns do large oak trees grow. And it was from no 22 Fore Street in Salcombe that we launched the Jack Wills brand. Not quite New York, Paris, Peckham, but from Salcombe we ended up opening stores right across the globe.

So, this humble, beautiful little store has punched very much above its weight over the years. Which is why when it became available last year, I just had to get it for Aubin. I’ve always thought of Aubin as the grown up. The much cooler older sibling.

First time around for Aubin, the world was awash with fast fashion. But I just always wanted to make stuff that was brilliant that people loved. Always of the best quality. Always sold at a fair price for what it was. Not cheap. But not crazy expensive either. Just fair for what it is.

And what it is is classic, stylish product, always inspired by British heritage, made in the best factories in the world and sold in an unflashy way.

I’m therefore thrilled to announce that Aubin.Salcombe opened its doors this Spring.
(Please take a moment to admire the oak floorboards which I laid with my own bare
hands in 1998.)

I hope that you’ll pay us a visit this summer.
