Britain has always been a nation of makers, builders and heavy-lifters. From railways and mines to mills, steelworks and factories, industry shaped towns and cities across the country. And we’ve always loved the clothes worn by the people who built Britain and kept it moving.

British workwear was never a strict uniform, but a practical mix of heavy wool jackets, cotton shirting, hand knits and hard-wearing fabrics, built to last. Colour and pattern added a little swagger, while these influences travelled beyond the workplace to artists and musicians including Gilbert and George, The Clash, The Housemartins and steeplejack Fred Dibnah.

To celebrate the collection we headed to the Master Shipwright’s House in Deptford with actors Frankie Wade, Art Campion and Kyle Rowe. Dark corduroy, faded pinstripes and Prince of Wales check were layered with patterned knitwear, sturdy peacoats and brightly coloured socks. A collection built for a British autumn.
